www.poker.com – Computers Playing Poker

poker.com – I have to admit that I really don’t think a computer could ever play No Limit poker successfully. Recently there was news of a computer programme beating a player at limit poker which is interesting in itself, but that is a very different prospect to No Limit poker.

I think with Limit poker you could play textbook perfect poker (which a computer could feasibly be programmed to do) and you would be very successful. I’m not saying that it takes little skill to play Limit poker but I think the skills are much more straightforward and would be easier to programme into a computer. The problem with doing the same with No Limit is that there is so much more to consider when playing the game.

I have a WSOP game for my computer in fact, and have won many bracelets as my character. The reason for this is not that I am necessarily capable of beating hundreds of players in such events on a regular basis. But I am capable of beating hundreds of computer controlled players simply because I am far more intelligent than a computer.

A computer knows only what it is programmed into it, and once I work out this programmed style of play and find the chinks in it’s armour I can win most of the time. if it were a person I was playing, they would see what I was doing to counteract their play, and then alter their play to stifle what I was doing successfully. But of course a computer has no plan B and it’s gameplan can be probed and weaknesses found.
I shall change my first statement however, I do not think a computer will be able to be consistently successful at No Limit poker, within the next ten years. But I cannot rule out vast leaps in the development of artificial intelligence of course.

One of the first points to mention in relation to pacificpoker.com, is that the site offers a very decent sign up bonus which is always important to keep new players coming in. This bonus is released in an immediate 25% installment first to help the player get started, then 75% is released once the correct amount of player points have been earned.

The look of the tables on www.pacificpoker.com is pretty good I feel, and the lobby is set out in an accessible format too. Shane warne has been the latest pro player to join the Pacific poker team, and I must say I was very impressed with his performance in the WSOP main event. He was up to over a million in chips at one point and has in my opinion, proved he is not just a cricketer who doesn’t know much of poker, so a big well done to him.

The successes of Shane Warne, amongst other things could well be a good omen for Pacific poker. The site is a very beginner friendly atmosphere too which helps, with poker schools to help out players with their understanding of the game, along with tournaments reserved for beginners only.

The real question is, can Pacific poker ever reach the heights of the biggest names in online poker sites? I think there is work to be done of course, but then you can say that about anything which isn’t perfect.
If they have a team dedicated to constantly improving and they keep themselves attentive to what the customers are enjoying and what they aren’t, then I would have to say yes. They have the foundations to achieve that, given enough time.
